On expected lines, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on Congress after an extremely large drug bust worth Rs 5,000 crore was cracked in Delhi recently. He accused the Congress of securing victory in elections using illegal drug money and putting the youth of the country at risk. He also alleged that Congress has been promoting knowingly and unknowingly drugs amongst the youth to fund their political parties.

What Happened?

Huge number of drugs recovered by Delhi Police, inter-state network busted the total estimated value of the drugs are about Rs 5,000 crores and it turned out to be one of the biggest drug bust in India. Questions are being raised about drug smuggling in the nation and its effect on youth.

The prime accused in this case is a person named Tushar Goyal who was suspected in drug trading. Before 2022, Goyal was associated with the Congress party as per reports. Though, Congress has completely refused the claim of being a partner to this offence or anything against Goyal.

PM Modi’s Criticism

Talking on a public forum, Modi tore into the Congress saying that they were using dirty money tricks like ‘narco’ runs to fund their election campaigns. He also said that such acts are harmful not only for the future of India but also its young generation falling into the drug menace, is sheer wastage(Catch).

Modi’s message was blunt — political parties lose more by resorting to illegal means of politics in their favour, at the cost of taking a generation to its doom that are future of the nation.

 Congress’s Response

However, reacting to the allegations, Congress denied involvement in the drug case with immediacy.Suspect may have had some links with the party in the past but that does not mean we are involved with your illegal activities, they clarified. The Congress said that it had virtually disowned Goyal and that they have not been associated with him since 2022.

The Congress also hit back at PM Modi over the accusation and said that these allegations are politically motivated. They suggested the PM was attempting to deflect from the actual issues of facing Britain with such claims.

The Impact

The debate was further spiced by a war of words between BJP and Congress. The drug bust has also stirred speculation about India turning into a centre of dope and the consequences will affect the youth. The charges of impropriety also underscore the enmity between India’s two largest political parties, which swap power every few years and routinely accuse one another of corruption.

It is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available from the drug case investigation. For the time being, the political discourse has seen reactions to PM Modi’s remarks with both sides of the aisle defending their stances.

Conclusion

The Rs.5,000-crore drug scam that has been happening in Delhi is no longer only a criminal vindicta but has transformed into a political battle, with PM Modi claiming that the Congress party has taken help from illegal drug money. Congress has denied the accusations, as the debate rages on. Although, this has drawn eyeballs to the increasing drug trafficking racket in the country that targets India’s youth.

It is an issue that will eventually have to be confronted by both parties, but for now the attention has turned to the progress of the investigation — and whether any more political connections can be established.
