In Thursday’s scuffle in Parliament complex, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi sustained serious injuries. With this new round of political tension, Sarangi alleged that it was Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who triggered the incident. These claims have been rejected by Congress who said the BJP is distorting facts in a bid to gain political advantage.

The Incident

Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushed another MP, who fell onto him, causing Sarangi to also fall and hurt his head, Pratap Sarangi said. The exchange in front of Parliament’s Makar Gate turned heated. BJP MP Mukesh Rajput was also injured and later taken to the ICU with dizziness and high blood pressure. Rushed to RML Hospital for treatment, Sarangi was bleeding from the head.

Sarangi’s Statement

Sarangi recounted the incident, saying:
“I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP who fell on me. I fell and sustained a serious head injury.”
Doctors confirmed that Sarangi required multiple stitches and was monitored closely due to significant blood loss.

Congress’s Counterclaims

Sarangi’s allegations were rejected by Congress, which accused BJP MPs of manhandling their leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi during a protest against the contempt shown towards Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. BJP’s claims were termed as politically motivated to divert attention from national issues by Congress.

Medical Condition of the MPs

Sarangi and Rajput got medical attention.

 •         Pratap Sarangi: He suffered deep head injuries which required stitches and was then kept in ICU for observation.

 •         Mukesh Rajput: It experienced dizziness and high blood pressure and was under a doctor’s watch.

This issue has also thrown up questions about the safety of lawmakers inside Parliament.
